Small-Group Two-Beach Day, Snacks, rated 5 across 247 traveller reviews.
This trip from Chania pairs Elafonisi and Falasarna, two of Crete's sandy beach destinations, with a stop in the village of Vouves to see the world's oldest olive tree and taste extra virgin Cretan olive oil.
The day is built around water time. Elafonisi offers warm, shallow water and lagoons to wander, while Falasarna brings fine white sand and crystal clear water. Between beaches, the bus winds through the countryside with an audiovisual presentation on Cretan customs and a local guide on board. Snack boxes with sandwiches and Cretan pies, plus cold drinks, wine, beer and bottled water, are carried on board, and reviewers repeatedly mention that umbrellas and beach mats are handed out too.
It suits travellers who would rather not deal with the driving. One reviewer noted the mountain roads on the route and was glad the driver handled them, and the small-group format means the day stays personal rather than feeling like a big coach outing.
A few practical points shape the day, from the walk into Elafonisi to what the snack box actually covers.
Common issues. The tour is not wheelchair accessible, though pushchairs are fine and infant seats are available. Cancellation is strict inside 24 hours, and the operator requires a minimum number of travellers, so the day can be called off and rebooked or refunded if that minimum is not met. Sunbeds and gratuities are not included. The 500 meter walk into Elafonisi is worth knowing about for anyone with limited mobility.
Transport in an air-conditioned vehicle, a local guide, a snack box with sandwiches and Cretan pies, cold soft drinks, beer, wine and bottled water, an olive oil tasting, WiFi and USB charging on board, and public liability insurance. The group is capped at 15 travellers.
Sunbeds on the beaches and gratuities are excluded. Everything listed as included, including food, drinks and the olive oil tasting, is covered.
The tour departs from Chania and the departure point is near public transportation. Confirmation is received at the time of booking.
Infant seats are available and pushchairs are accessible, and most travellers can participate. The tour is not wheelchair accessible, and travellers need to walk about 500 meters from the parking area to Elafonisi beach because the protected site bans buses from parking closer.
A full refund is available if you cancel at least 24 hours before the start time. Inside 24 hours there is no refund and changes are not accepted. If the operator cancels for poor weather or because the minimum number of travellers is not met, you are offered a different date or a full refund.
Comfortable shoes for the walk into Elafonisi. Mats and umbrellas are provided according to multiple reviewers, but sunbeds are not, and drinks are supplied on board throughout the day.
